EXXONMOBIL Inaugrates A Scheme To Support Female Engineering and Geo-Science Students
Female professionals in ExxonMobil Nigeria, under the auspices of the Women Interest Network, have inaugurated an outreach programme to encourage girls to pursue careers in Engineering and Geosciences.
The President of ExxonMobil WIN in Nigeria, Mrs. Toyin Sarumi, stated this at the University of Ibadan while inaugurating the initiative.
The programme enables WIN members to hold lecture sessions and mentor female students, particularly Geosciences and Engineering students.
The target of the initiative, Sarumi said, was to reach out to female students in no fewer than 15 universities in the country, preparing them for the challenges ahead of them.
According to her, members of the association will also provide them information on how to gain employment in the oil and gas sector as well as how they can enjoy fulfilling careers in the industry and work/life balance, among others.
The Vice-President of the group, Mrs. Jumoke Akinpelu, who urged female students to pursue careers in Engineering and Geosciences, added that the association would provide them the required assistance through the WIN initiative.
The benefitting schools are the UI; Akwa Ibom State University; Rivers State University of Science & Technology; Federal University of Technology, Effurun; University of Lagos; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; University of Port Harcourt, and the University of Calabar.
Others are the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; University of Benin; Delta State University, Abraka; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Enugu State University of Science & Technology; Federal University of Technology, Akure; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Anambra State University, Ulli, and the American University of Nigeria, Yola.
Meanwhile, the mission of the ExxonMobil WIN in Nigeria is to facilitate the professional advancement and personal growth of all women.
The group also promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education among females
