All the New Stuff You Can Do with 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus come out today and now that you’ve figured out howyou should buy one, it’s time to figure out how to use it. iMore has a great summation of all the new stuff you can with 3D Touch.

Carriers have made buying a new phone stupidly confusing. We’ve simplified it. If you’re looking to …
The landmark new feature with the 6s is 3D touch, which tends to work something like a right-click for your phone. You can use the feature from the home screen, in apps, and more. Here’s a quick look at some of the possibilities:

On the Home Screen: You can press firmly on an icon to bring up special actions, like instantly taking a selfie, sending a message to a particular person, and more. This works with all of Apple’s default apps, and third-party apps are slowly rolling out updates with the feature as well.
Peek and Pop: “Peek and Pop” allows you to preview certain things in iOS. If you press firmly on links, messages, and data detectors (like dates, locations, or airline info), you can “peek” at the end result. It’s basically Quick Look for iOS. To take action on the resulting peek, just let go to dismiss or swipe up to see more options.
App Switching: App switching gets a little faster with 3D Touch. Instead of double-tapping the Home button, you can now use 3D Touch. Press firmly on the left side of the screen, then swipe a little bit to the right to bring up the app switcher. You can also swipe all the way to the right to bring up the last used app.
Trackpad: You can now get a little trackpad to make selecting text easier. Just press firmly on the keyboard, then swipe around to move the cursor. If you press a little harder you can select also text.
That’s just the basics and I’m sure we’ll see a few hidden features pop up over the next week. Still, there’s a ton more you can do, so head over to iMore for the full guide and be sure to peek at Apple’s guide as well.
