A Police constable went on rampage on a shooting spree on Friday in Yobe state, killing two inspectors before turning the gun on himself.
The incident happened at about 6:40 am on Friday at Nengere Local Government area of the state following a disagreement among the policemen.
The state police command spokesperson, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin confirmed the incident saying the two inspectors were confirmed dead but the constable was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Daily Trust correspondent reports that trouble started the inspectors were about to hand over morning duties at the Nengere police station.
Police source revealed that the constable refused to take orders from the inspector on duty, and they both resolved to lock him (the killer constable) up in the station’s cell.
The source said: “It’s connected to the case of one Fulani man that stabbed his brother at Tarajim village. The inspector ordered the constable to take the wounded detainee to hospital but he refused.
“The constable went wild when they ordered him into the cell. He seized a raffle from the counter and shot Inspector Ishaku Elam first followed by Inspector Musa Mohammed Dalleri outside the office and shot him before shooting himself.”
He said that all the policemen around scampered for safety to avoid falling victims of the constable’s rage. Our correspondent confirmed that corpses of the two inspectors and that of the constable are currently in Potiskum General Hospital morgue.
Source from the hospital confirmed that the police constable identified as Ibrahim Musa was brought to the hospital in critical condition before he passed away.
