Drunk policeman Kills Kids with Armoured Tank in Osun

A policeman driving an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, yesterday killed two children of the same parents in Egbedi area of Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State.

Some residents of the area, Sunday evening, said the policeman who drove the APC was allegedly drunk when the accident happened.

The deceased, 5-year-old Sade, and her sister, Anu, said to be 3-year-old, it was further learnt, were playing in front of their father’s house when the vehicle hit and killed them on the spot, while the policeman drove away.

An eyewitness, who preferred not to be named, further explained: “As the policeman started to escape, some commercial motorcyclists chased but could not catch up with him and he escaped towards Osu Road and ran away with the APC.”

Father of the deceased, whose names could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report, was away to farm when the incident happened.

Upon arrival, he was said to have gone to the police station, but failed to secure the release of his children’s corpses, even with the assistance of his lawyer.

He was said to have pleaded with the mob to remain calm for the matter to be resolved.

Miffed by the development, the angry mob later laid siege to the nearest police station, ‘A’ Division Police Station, Ayeso, Ilesa, and vandalised operational vehicles parked within the premises and personal belongings of occupants of residential quarters inside the station.

The policemen on duty fired several teargas canisters and gunshots into the air to no available. The mob were said to have been desperate to dare the police.

When contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, confirmed the incident.

She explained that the police officer driving the APC lost control and hit an electric pole, which eventually electrocuted the kids.

While describing the incident as unfortunate, Mrs. Odoro said all operational vehicles in the station, private cars and police quarters were vandalised by the angry mob.

She then appealed to residents of Ilesa to remain calm and assured that the matter would be investigated and the culprit brought to justice.
