Brianne Altice, a 36-year-old English high-school teacher, has been sentenced to up to 30 years in jail. Why? For sleeping with minors. Three of her underage students to be exact. Her young suitors were just 17, and one of them 16, which makes them minors in the eyes of the law. Brianne initially pleaded not guilty, saying that she was just friendly with these boys. However, as the case progressed, and the victims came to light and admitted to having had a sexual relationship with her, she pleaded guilty.
In her defense, Brianne stated that she made a mistake at a vulnerable time in her life. Apparently her husband wasn’t paying her enough attention, so she fell victim to the flirtatious advances of her students. Does that sound reasonable to you?
The prosecution agreed that the underage boys might’ve been flirtatious and friendly, but she was the one who had control of the situation. She shouldn’t have responded to their advances as they are minors, and she’s the adult. Not to mention the fact that she was a teacher in a high school. She’s not anymore. The school fired her as soon as the details of her scandalous private life became known.
There was debate whether she should serve time or should she undergo behavioral therapy to change her ways. Some were of the opinion that she’s a disturbed individual, and it’s a mental problem that she needs help with. Brianne wrote a letter to the judge asking him not to send her to prison. She promised that she’s harmless and would never make such a mistake again.
