Cristiano Ronaldo admits transfer comments might have been a mistake

Cristiano Ronaldo has apologised for making comments about his future directly after Real Madrid’s Champions League victory on Saturday.

The Real star hinted he was preparing to leave the La Liga giants, which alarmed fans and club officials.

Ronaldo has been Real’s talisman ever since joining the club in 2009, but decided to make the shock admission in the moments after his side had claimed their third European trophy in a row.

And with speculation now swirling about Ronaldo’s future, the Portugal international promised to make an announcement in a week. ‘Maybe it wasn’t the perfect timing to talk about personal things. Maybe I’ve made a mistake or not,’ he said. ‘It takes away from a beautiful, historic moment for us that is winning three Champions Leagues in a row, obviously it is a special moment.

The fans who are always on my side, I always have them in my heart. It’s not the right moment to talk or for my team mates to talk about the future.’ Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with his pay packet at Real, when compared to the wages Neymar and Lionel Messi earn at their respective clubs. Real will not be happy with Ronaldo’s comments, and will be concerned the forward’s actions have drawn attention away from the side’s historic achievement. The La Liga giants are the first side in the Champions League era to win the European trophy three times in a row.
